Kristin, so sorry to hear about your dog's surgery. I hope he is recovering well. You may not remember me but I submitted to your BixChicksRule blog and operate an animal massage training program in Seattle called the Northwest School of Animal Massage. I cannot tell you how many of these cruciate tears we see each year. What I can tell you is that physical therapy is the absolute key to a quick and ideal recovery for your dog. Find a pool in your area with a qualified tech who can get him swimming as soon as the stitches are out. Also, ask your vet if they can recommend a massage therapist who can start doing small range of motion work on the joint. 80% of these dogs reinjure or injure the other knee due to poor recovery/rehab. Proper rehab will make all the difference in the world for him...please contact me if you need any recommendations or have questions. I just had a client recently (172 lb Mastiff) that is now running and playing only 8 weeks after surgery and looks fantastic! I would be happy to connect you with his owner if you need someone to talk with...she is a great lady. Best of luck and I will keep Ty in my thoughts.
