It really doesn’t matter which platforms you use for social media marketing for your business.
I know, I know. It sounds nuts, right?
But it’s true, and here’s why: EVERYTHING WORKS AND THEY’RE ALL THE SAME.
Yes, you’re free to argue, “Well, TikTok is video and Clubhouse is audio, and Twitter is…blah blah blah,” but that’s not the point.
On every platform:
- You have content.
- You share content.
- Other people interact with your content (or don’t).
- Other people have content.
- Other people share content.
- You interact with other people’s content (or don’t).
That’s it. For every platform.
Whatever you believe about any specific platform will be true because you will MAKE it true, either by creating it yourself or by seeking out that evidence which proves the thing you already think is true.
Let’s look at LinkedIn for example.
- If you believe LinkedIn is stuffy and boring, you will be stuffy and boring and you will seek out stuffy, boring people to prove that it’s stuffy and boring.
- If you believe LinkedIn is the greatest untapped market for delight that ever existed, you will be delightful and seek out delight to prove it’s delightful.
- If you believe LinkedIn is hard and all-consuming, you’ll make that happen.
- If you believe marketing your business on LinkedIn is as easy as falling up the stairs (I am a MASTER at falling up the stairs — insert your own example here) you will make it that easy.
So the next time you notice yourself comparing platforms or deciding one doesn’t work as well as others, get curious.
- Is it that you actually don’t feel called to use that platform?
- Is it that you made a decision about it that you don’t like but feel like you can’t change and thus have no choice but to abandon the platform entirely?
- Is it that you actually NEVER wanted to use that platform in the first place and are finally willing to stop but feel like you need a “good reason” other than “I don’t want to do it anymore”?

If you find yourself on a social media platform you dread visiting and hate using, get out of there. You don’t actually need to use it. There are people who successfully promote their businesses on every social media platform. I literally couldn’t care less what the hottest platform is right now. The right platform for you is the one that you actually like and are willing to use — period.
And if you well and truly hate social media from the depths of your SOUL, you don’t actually need to use it at all. It’s my favorite way to connect with lots of people in lots of places all at once and in a way that is very fun for me, but that doesn’t make it right for you. People have built successful businesses for hundreds — THOUSANDS — of years before the advent of social media. It’s not a requirement. It’s one option. And you get to do your business YOUR way.
